ABSTRACT
In this chapter we shall take a practical approach to the role of art therapy and place it in the broader context of the modern philosophy of care for mentally handicapped people.
As we begin to examine some of the issues related to the use of art therapy with mentally handicapped people, it is essential to consider the nature of mental handicap and the general direction of care for this section of society.
