ABSTRACT

Art therapy originated with the general practice of one therapist working with a number of clients but the therapist’s interaction with each was on a one-to-one basis. More recently the use of structured group interaction in art therapy has become quite widespread. Most art therapy groups use some kind of theme, game, or structure to stimulate group learning and discussion, and a group setting is useful for teaching purposes as well. Very little has so far been written about how the particular choice of activity may influence the experience of the group and the individuals in it (Denny 1975:132).
