ABSTRACT

Why do teachers need to think about future events and trends? How can we help young people think more critically and creatively about the future? This chapter sets out to answer questions such as these and in particular explores:

• the rationale for students acquiring a futures perspective in their life and work; • the fi eld of futures studies and the conceptual framework this offers for educators; • how futures related ideas and issues can make a signifi cant contribution to good

classroom practice.
