ABSTRACT
Why is it that teachers need to know about issues to do with the environment and human well-being? How can we help young people understand the need for a more sustainable future? This chapter sets out to answer questions such as these and, in particular, explores:
• the rationale for a curriculum which explores issues of sustainability; • debates about the meaning and nature of sustainability/unsustainability; • educational initiatives illustrating good practice in education for sustainability.
