ABSTRACT

No country in the Americas has ratified the UN Watercourses Convention (UNWC). This includes the countries that fall within the Amazon River Basin, one of the most important watersheds in the world. This does not mean, however, that countries in the region did not support the Convention at the time of its adoption: Paraguay and Venezuela have signed it, although they have not yet completed the ratification process; within the continent, there were 13 states that voted in favor of the Convention, 1 of which ten were also among its co-sponsors. 2
