ABSTRACT
This chapter 1 explores linkages between the UN Watercourses Convention (UNWC) and other internationally agreed development, equity, empowerment and environment policy goals. In particular, we examine whether certain development and environment goals find explicit mention or are somehow reflected in the UNWC. Secondly, we ask whether, regardless of any direct reference in the UNWC, the implementation of the Convention as such could support the attainment of certain development and environment goals, thus potentially leading to a positive resonance between the Convention and other policy initiatives.
