ABSTRACT
This chapter will discuss how teachers can support pupils who are in the process of learning English as an additional language (EAL). Language is intrinsically linked to a person’s sense of home, culture and self-esteem and it should be valued and respected. Pupils who are new to English will encounter some difficulties in school settings but teachers can adopt a range of effective strategies that will help to positively engage all pupils in active learning.
