ABSTRACT
No truly human society, it would generally be agreed, could exist without the use of a natural human language. What is perhaps less widely appreciated is that all human societies possess, in addition to a language, an artistic heritage, including a literature which embodies their history and traditions, their wisdom and beliefs.
