ABSTRACT

Central to the process of choice is the collection and analysis of information about each of the sets of factors as they relate to you. As the options you choose must be ‘user friendly’ in providing some sort of job satisfaction, it seems logical to start with the internal personal factors and complete a self assessment of these. For these factors you are the expert, you know yourself better than anyone else. Sometimes, however, our self-knowledge and perception are clouded, (e.g. by the stress of having to make a decision, or a difficult experience at work, or lack of relevant experiences), so it can be useful to discuss your assessments with someone who knows you well. Any light thrown on how others see you will provide more depth to the picture you build up of yourself. The exercises in this chapter are designed to help you build up this picture. They are tools which will help you to embark on your thinking about the issues which are important to you.
