ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests ways forward for reviewing a setting’s practice in terms of what needs to be in place in order to plan and observe effectively as an early years staff to meet the developmental and learning needs of babies and children under three. Issues will be covered such as staff training (it has been pointed out earlier in this book that observation skills can be practised and improved). Such a review may feed into elements of the setting development plan. When reviewing practice, settings must be confident in their own judgements resulting from such an exercise. In this instance, the outcome has to be one of knowing that planning provision equates to that which constitutes and supports every child’s unique developmental and learning needs. Many settings undergo this approach of a reflective, progressive review on an ongoing basis.
