Souls of Pe and Nekhen Gods symbolising the Predynastic rulers of the northern and southern kingdoms of Egypt, regarded as protective ancestors of the living monarch.
The 'Bau' (souls) of Pe have the heads of falcons Pe or Buto = the capital of the Delta kingdom The 'Bau' of Nekhen have the heads of jackals Nekhen or Hierakonpolis = ancient capital of Upper Egypt.
