An association between epilepsy and memory disorders has been reported for centuries. Indeed, early commentators perceived memory decline as an inevitable consequence of having seizures:
unless the disease be arrested we soon discover that the intellectual faculties begin to fail. The memory is one of the first that shows impairment.
