ABSTRACT
Pam Chao is an Asian American professor of sociology and director of a community and diversity center. She has studied and taught diversity issues and race relations for nearly 20 years. Liz Cassanos is a European American doctoral candidate in psychology and has moved between the academic and business worlds through her career. We approached this chapter as a discussion, and our focus goes beyond being allies to the idea of friendshipthe quality that underlies and sustains a lasting and mutually satisfying alliance.
