ABSTRACT

Just as a listener can never fully ‘know’ the subjective experience of another person’s life or dreams, a viewer can never be certain of the meaning in another’s drawing. Although a survey of picture content does help the viewer grasp some of the artist’s status at the moment of creation, there are many possibilities and many levels to consider. Thus, the interpretations presented in this chapter are not absolutes but only the best thoughts of the author after much deliberation and with great respect for the unconscious and the individual creative process. Having stated this cautionary note, the chapter continues with an analysis of Rachel’s drawings.
