ABSTRACT
Metaphors, however striking, have a way of being repeated and so of growing less unexpected, and then after a time of being almost unnoticeable. We then call them ‘dead’ metaphors. This is a misleading way of putting things, however, to which we will return. But first, let us consider the so-called ‘LIVE’ or original METAPHOR.
