ABSTRACT

Like many other participants in this book, Tahmin finds it impossible to separate ‘literacy’ from ‘education’ and ‘getting on’ in life. In this chapter, we return to Canon Barnett School half a century after Abby had left and we listen to five young women whose parents came from Bangladesh to live in Britain. Nina, Noshi, Sima, Tahmin and Ros were born between 1969 and 1977 and were between 20 and 30 years old at the start of the twenty-first century. All either attended Canon Barnett as children or went to nearby schools and now have young children at Canon Barnett or Sir John Cass School.
