ABSTRACT
Discrimination by ability is closely related to discrimination by social class. There is evidence from research that we underestimate children of both low and high ability (e.g. Bennett et al. 1984). The National Curriculum demands that we make the curriculum accessible to all children and this may mean developing steps towards attainment targets for some children rather than aiming at them directly.
