ABSTRACT

The National Curriculum lays stress on communication skills and it is particularly important to develop oral communication. However, it should not be forgotten that much communication involves movement and work in drama can be particularly helpful here. Technology also involves communication through drawings and diagrams as well as problem solving.

Being numerate means having the ability to apply mathematical knowledge. Many children can perform the necessary operations in class but are unable to translate them into useful material in other contexts. Teachers need to look for applications of mathematics in all aspects of curriculum so that children gradually become truly numerate.
