ABSTRACT
Considering the popular interest that the topic of hypnosis evokes, it is perhaps surprising that we find so little reference to it in mainstream psychology textbooks. In fact, the area of hypnosis has produced some of the most innovative experimental research designs in psychology and has also highlighted some methodological issues that have implications well beyond the realms of hypnosis. In this brief chapter I will attempt to provide a sketch of some of these issues.
