ABSTRACT

The APL process has the potential to be an equitable method for gaining national qualifications, as individuals are assessed on their own skills and abilities, rather than purely on a yardstick of worth placed on their overseas qualifications, which are usually unrecognised and undervalued in Britain. The imminent standardisation of NCVQs across Europe, necessitates a system of APL which can standardise and legitimise overseas qualifications and link them into British/European qualifications.
