ABSTRACT
In contemplating the relationship between art and society, the involvement of the individual person must be central. It is from this central position that issues concerned with teaching must emanate, because although teaching is a social activity, children learn individually. This also applies to teachers, and professional development must ultimately depend on an individual’s reflection on their own practice.
