ABSTRACT
The role of the teacher naturally looms fairly large in any discussion about the learning of literacy. What roles might the teacher play? How might he/she build upon knowledge of children’s learning to act in strategic and effective ways in the classroom. In this final unit, we shall examine these issues and put forward a relatively new model of teaching based on research insights into learning. We shall begin by looking at learning.
