ABSTRACT

In this chapter we turn to a different area of the ‘global city’ —Docklands and Spitalfields in the east London borough of Tower Hamlets. We also view more closely themes which have only been touched on during the previous chapters, viz. the issues of race and ethnicity associated with the global flows of migrant workers. At the same time we meet again the divisions of class as the flow of global capital transforms the socio-economic character of ‘localities’ in far more drastic ways than are evident within other areas of the city.
