Please keep language pace slow and simple. Use ‘pondering’ to slow your pace and invite shared thought. Praise throughout the session. Say a little about how well children came in and joined you.

Opening round: name game (Getting to know the group) (Standing)

Tell the children you need to know their names so you will play a name game. Roll a ball across the circle a few times. Say your name and roll it to a child. Encourage the child to say his or her name and roll the ball to someone else and so on for several minutes until all have had a chance to roll the ball. The aim is to be able to say: ‘My name is . . . ’
