ABSTRACT
In this chapter I want to reaffirm the importance of film as an expressive art whose place on the curriculum has never been adequately secured; I also want to make a clear distinction between film studies, as a disciplined exploration within the aesthetic field proposed with such clarity by Peter Abbs, and media studies, whose parasitical growth now threatens film studies with extinction.
