ABSTRACT

T he ultimate goal of written composition research is to understand how we normallycomposetextsandthementalprocessesthatareinvolvedinsuchacomplextask.Acognitiveperspectivehasthegoalofdeterminingthe what,when,andwherefordifferentkindsofthoughtsrelatedtothetextasthey becomeavailableandcanbetranscribed.Adevelopmentalperspectiveintroduces the necessity to study the evolution of the different dimensions involved in composing,fromideagenerationtographictranscription.Aneducationalperspective addstothetwopreviouskindsofresearchregardingwhatdimensionscanbemodi£ed, and to what extent, by direct or indirect interventions.
