ABSTRACT

A modern newspaper typically encompasses a website, a tablet app, a facebook page, multiple twitter accounts, a youtube channel, collections of bloggers, a series of podcasts and more besides. Chris Bullivant's victory paved the way for Rupert Murdoch to move production of his national newspapers from Fleet Street to Wapping which resulted in bitterly fought confrontations between union supporters and workers at the new plant. As Bob Clarke points out in his meticulous history from Grub Street to Fleet Street. Most provincial newspapers in the 18th century were politically neutral. They were intended for profit, not propaganda. Fleet streets figures show circulations dropped by one fifth between 1990 and 2002 and by a further one third over the following decade. Similar crises are afflicting newspapers in America and across Europe, although in China, India and Asia circulations are racing ahead and global newspaper sales have continued to rise.
