Project teams and the dilemmas of functional leadership
This chapter deals with work activities organized into projects. Although the importance of
project leaders and project leadership have become recognized, the majority of textbooks and articles on the subject prefer to use the terms project managers and project management. Before reading any further, you are invited to consider your current understanding of project management and project leadership by studying Exercise 3.1
As can be seen in the definitions above, projects have been described as largely rationally
planned activities. Project management training concentrates on acquiring the skills of
applying project procedures as established by professional institutions.
