ABSTRACT

Sexual harassment constitutes both an illegal and undesirable social practice taking place within the structure of an organization. The interactions that comprise sexual harassment involve a combination of factors such as the behavior is unwanted and clearly sexual in nature. Sexual harassment divides into two basic categories of actions: (a) quid pro quo and (b) environmental. Quid pro quo, a Latin term meaning “this for that,” implies that sexual behavior is required in exchange for workplace outcomes like not being fired or getting a raise, a promotion, or other tangible economic benefits. The best way to describe this form of sexual harassment is an explicit exchange of sexual behavior for some specified benefit or action.
