ABSTRACT

It is your job as an instructor to ascertain the differing levels of achievement among the students in your class. The process of grading gives feedback to students and thereby helps them identify areas of weakness, but also assesses their overall achievement. The comments you make on papers should point out problems, draw attention to areas that need improvement, and reinforce things that the students are doing well. My experience is that students are more open to constructive criticism when they also know you recognize the positive aspects of their work.
