ABSTRACT

The politics of Delhi especially in the 1990s has undergone a remarkable change. Though surrounded by states like Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab, where caste plays a very important role in state politics, in Delhi, although caste has its own role, in recent times, it is class that has come to occupy a dominant role in the electoral politics of the state. But this is not the tone of Delhi’s politics still for it continues to be perceived in terms of the old language of the Jat and Punjabi vote. The question is: what resulted in the changing pattern of politics in Delhi? Has the pattern of vote politics also made a difference in the character of the political representatives?
