The impact of TAs
In many ways this is the most important chapter in the book, because it is here that we describe in detail our results on the impact of TAs. As described in Chapter 1, the overall DISS project covered all categories of support staff, but in the case of impact on pupil outcomes, the focus was on TAs. We examined impact on two main types of outcomes:
1 The effects on teachers in terms of first, their workloads, job satisfaction and levels of stress; and, second, their teaching
2 The effects on pupils, in terms of their learning and behaviour; measures of their positive approaches to learning (PAL); and finally, in terms of their academic progress in English, mathematics and science.
