ABSTRACT
Chapters 3 – 5 have discussed word identifi cation in isolation, many of the basics of eye movements in reading, and what we have learned about word identifi cation when people read text. The present chapter will discuss a relatively simple model of eye movements in reading that we have developed, which can explain why there is such a tight linkage between word identifi cation and where the eyes are fi xating.
