ABSTRACT
Chapters 3–5 have discussed word identification in isolation, many of the basics of eye movements in reading, and what we have learned about word identification when people read text. The present chapter will discuss a relatively simple model of eye movements in reading that we have developed, which can explain why there is such a tight linkage between word identification and where the eyes are fixating.
