ABSTRACT
Two reading programs are being considered for adoption by a large school district with several thousand students. The district has decided to test the programs on two random samples of students before making a final decision. The purpose of this activity is to begin to think about how much data you would need to see before you could be confident you knew whether one of the programs produced a higher average score than the other on a particular standardized test.
