ABSTRACT

The hallmark of episodic memory is the ability to remember the details of a past experience, including its spatial and temporal context along with other associated details (Tulving, 1972). Although episodic recollections usually bring to mind a rich representation of a past experience, older adults often report that their ability to remember episodic details is not as good as it was when they were younger. Indeed, laboratory studies have confirmed that older adults’ memory deficits are particularly noticeable when assessing the ability to remember spatiotemporal contexts (Spencer & Raz, 1995) or other details associated with an experience (e.g., Castel & Craik, 2003; Kausler, 1994; Light, 1991; Naveh-Benjamin, 2000).
