I therefore conceive Spain with Catalonia governed by the institutions that she wishes through the free expression of her own will. A free union between equals of the same rank, in order to live in peace within the Hispanic world that we share and which in no way deserves contempt. And I must tell you also that if one day another will were dominant in Catalonia and she resolved to row alone in her boat, it would be fair to allow this and our duty would be to leave you in peace, in the least harmful way possible for both parties, and wish you good luck. 1
