Introduction

In this book I have set out to explore poetry, fiction, drama and autobiography in ways that lead to writing. The principle I hold is that reading precedes writing, stimulates writing, and that confident writers are also confident readers. I would encourage anyone beginning to write by saying that they can learn most from the poems, plays and stories they enjoy. I hope this book will extend that enjoyment, as well as making it purposeful.
