ABSTRACT

From 2002 ‘citizenship’ will be a statutory part of the curriculum experienced by secondary pupils in England and Wales. Most geography teachers can expect to have some kind of role in fulfilling this duty. In some schools, the geography department will seize the chance to play a leading part in the school’s delivery of citizenship by creating a meaningful, relevant and worthwhile (and enjoyable) citizenship education through the content and design of geography lessons. This book has been produced to encourage and help inform such a process.
