ABSTRACT

Although presented for different audiences, at different times, and in response to different visions of citizenship education, certain broad perspectives on citizenship and geography education are often repeated. As Walkington (1999) herself concludes, there are several areas where common ground is shared. These can be classified within specific concepts and key themes (such as interdependence, sustainability, justice and equity), methodology (such as the inquiry-based approach, role play and simulation), skills (such as handling information for decision making, critical thinking), and values and attitudes (such as empathy).
