ABSTRACT

It is recognized and acknowledged that secondary schools draw from a large number of partner primary schools (often termed a pyramid structure) and have to contend with the problem of a lack of consistency of curriculum coverage at Key Stage 2. Nevertheless the issue of delays in some students’ progress must be addressed. Year 6 teachers occasionally talk of their despair when students, on visiting their former primary school, tell the teachers that they are yet to cover new work in Geography after their first term at secondary school. Members of the Hampshire Geography Team have had conversations with Year 7 students which confirm this view.
