ABSTRACT
The next section, “Critical issues requiring further investigation”, highlights a range of issues about which our knowledge needs to be improved to be able to take effective action. The problem of defining precisely terms such as “synthetic” and “toxic” is one that needs to be resolved if all parties are to be able to communicate. Keeping materials in productive use implies that they have continued value, a concept that needs further development to make it useful in an industrial context.
