ABSTRACT

In the summer of 2001 the government announced £1.5 million to develop a regional approach to the resolution of disputes between parents and local education authorities (LEAs) and parents and schools about the special educational provision being made for their child. Prior to the injection of this regional funding, the imminence of a statutory requirement on LEAs to provide conciliation services meant that each LEA was starting to look at what arrangements they might need to put in place.
