ABSTRACT

Re-reading ‘Creative arts as therapy’ more than a decade after it was first published, I am struck by just how much has changed. The article compares two different types of musical activity. One type was based on my experiences as a student nurse at Shelton Hospital in Shrewsbury. Shelton Hospital opened in 1845, as the New Shropshire Lunatic Asylum. I trained there from 1983 to 1986 and now realise I caught the very last glimpses of the end of an era.
