ABSTRACT

Parenting is a difficult task at the best of times; under exclusionary pressures, whether these are high neighbourhood crime rates, local racist activity, low income, overcrowding or poor housing, that task becomes highly stressful. Whatever their circumstances parents often want to learn more about parenting and to share their experiences. Perhaps they want to break the patterns set by their own parents when they were young or to gain the support of other parents locally or to learn techniques that would improve their own parenting skills. One way you can help parents to achieve more confidence and mastery is through a parents’ support group.
