ABSTRACT
Short breaks for parents with disabled children are a crucial service for supporting those families within the community and expanding family networks (SSI 1998). The Quality Protects programme also specifically mentions expanding short-break provision for families with disabled children as does Children First in Wales. According to the SSI some 10,000 children use short-break services to have time away from home in new environments and the chance to develop new relationships and try new activities.
