ABSTRACT
By the early summer of 274, Aurelian was at last ready to take on his rival in the western provinces and thereby bring to a close the extraordinary train of events which had followed the revolt of Postumus fourteen years earlier. In order to place this campaign in its proper context it is necessary to review the events which led up to Aurelian’s march into Gaul.
