ABSTRACT
In as much as family planning is concerned and in the light of careful study and consultation there is no verse in the Qur'an (i.e. no explicit text or nuss) which forbids the husband or wife to space pregnancies or reduce their number according to their physical, economic, or cultural abilities, i.e. there is no text prohibiting al-azl or other methods of contraception. Nevertheless, the proponents and opponents of family planning use the Qur'an to support their arguments and such interpretative use will be discussed in this chapter.
