ABSTRACT

William Ascher is professor of public policy studies and political science at Duke University, and codirector of Duke’s Center for International Development Research. His research interests include development policy, political sciences, public administration, and comparative policymaking. He has published two books on political-economic forecasting: Forecasting: An Appraisal for Policymakers and Planners (1978) and Strategic Planning and Forecasting (1983); and another book on the politics of income redistribution in Latin America: Scheming for the Poor (1984). In 1980 he held a Council on Foreign Relations fellowship to study the World Bank’s adaptation to the poverty alleviation orientation, and spent that year on the World Bank’s Projects Advisory Staff. Several journal articles emerged from that research. Professor Ascher is currently the editor-in-chief of Policy Sciences and serves on editorial boards of several other journals.
