ABSTRACT
Starting school is an important time for children and their families. For the children it is a new experience and for the parents it may be the first contact they have with schools since being a pupil themselves. This chapter looks at the variety of provision offered prior to admission and the induction procedures developed. Examples are used to demonstrate the sensitive treatment that can be provided for children at the beginning of their school careers.
